The Position

The SBM Truss Designer designs layouts for trusses and modular framing componets in accoradance with client specifications.



  • Design roof and floor trusses using MiTek software and and customer blueprints;
  • Ensure designs are accurate, optimized, and conform to standards;
  • Generate and provide accurate pricing and material quantities for estimating purposes;
  • Service current clients by responding to needs and concerns regarding component quality;
  • Generate truss placement layouts for final construction;
  • Review cutting lists, production reports and delivery schedules to ensure the quality of the final product and timely deliveries to customers;
  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to construction and assembly personnel in the designing of components and component layouts;
  • Provide technical support to internal and external clients including SBM sales associates, contractors and the general public;



  • Developed CAD/MiTek design skills;
  • Strong customer service and sales capabilities;
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as strong interpersonal and relationship skills;
  • Able to effectively assess customer project and design needs and to provide proactive solutions;
  • Strong computer proficiency with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products;
  • Able to function effectively as part of a high-performance production team;
  • Ability to achieve performance objectives in a time-sensitive and quality-centered environments;
  • Quantitative skills such as basic business accounting, etc.;
  • Strong systems and safety orientation;
  • Demonstrates initiative and reliability with minimal supervision.



  • Associate's Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • 2+ years experience in truss industry;
  • Experience using MiTek, Alpine, InteliBuild, or ITW software preferred.



  • Sedentary work, requiring lifting up to 10lbs,
  • Repetitive motion associated with operating computer and assorted office equipment;
  • Frequent local travel to job sites, vendor locations, and customer businesses;
  • Inside, climate-controlled working conditions.
